Spurs aim to continue dominance over Wizards

Mar 12, 2012 - 2:40 PM (Sports Network) - A brilliant Rodeo Road Trip has morphed into a disappointing homestand for the San Antonio.

The Southwest Division-leading Spurs will try to get things moving in the right direction again when they shoot for their 12th straight win over the lowly Washington Wizards.

After setting an NBA record for wins (8-1) on a nine-game trek, San Antonio fell to 2-3 on its seven-game residency Friday when the Los Angeles Clippers won in the Alamo City, 120-108, for the first time in a decade.

Chris Paul recorded a season-high 36 points with 11 assists in that one for the Clippers, who had not won in San Antonio since January 31, 2002, snapping a 17-game losing streak.

Manu Ginobili paced the Spurs with 22 points and six assists. Gary Neal got the start in place of Tony Parker, who missed the game with a right quad contusion, and finished with 18 points and five assists.

Tim Duncan contributed 17 points as San Antonio fell to 15-4 as the host this season.

"It was a great effort. I thought our guys did a great job," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "You really put yourself in a hole and the guys still were there the whole time."

Parker, who averages team highs of 19.5 points and 7.9 assists, is expected to be back in the lineup tonight.

The Wizards, who are starting a six-game road trip tonight that will also include visits to Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Memphis and New Jersey, just finished a 2-3 homestand, dropping the finale to Portland on Saturday, 110-99.

John Wall had 25 points, eight assists and four rebounds to pace Washington, which had won two of three and entered Saturday's game on the heels of a comeback victory over the Lakers.

"We have to be more committed defensively," said Wizards coach Randy Wittman. "You have to be able, in that fourth quarter, to put two, three, four stops together."

Washington had dropped four straight on the road and is just 3-14 away from the nation's capital this season.

The Spurs have absolutely dominated the Wizards in recent years, winning 11 straight by an average of nearly 18 points per game.

Washington, which has also lost 11 consecutive in the Alamo City, hasn't topped the Spurs since a 110-95 win in D.C. on Nov. 12, 2005. It hasn't won in San Antonio since 1999.
