Jazz use late surge to down Pistons

Mar 13, 2012 - 5:29 AM Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Al Jefferson scored 13 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter and sparked a late run that gave the Jazz a 105-90 victory over the Pistons at EnergySolutions Arena.

Jefferson, whose grandmother passed away over the weekend, also pulled down 12 rebounds and made his first career three-pointer in the closing seconds.

"I know she wanted me to go out there and play and do my job," Jefferson said about his grandmother.

Devin Harris chipped in 19 points and eight assists and C.J. Miles added 15 points off the bench, including a key make from behind the arc that highlighted a game-ending 18-3 run for the Jazz, who were coming off a 2-3 road trip.

Detroit was trying to build off a perfect three-game homestand, but fell in Utah for the ninth straight time. Rodney Stuckey scored a team-high 29 points and handed out seven assists in defeat.

"They made plays down the stretch and we didn't," Pistons center Ben Wallace said bluntly.

Jefferson scored 10 straight points for Utah down the stretch, with his jumper yielding a 95-89 lead with two minutes to play.

Greg Monroe and Ben Gordon both missed on Detroit's next possession, and Miles drained a three-pointer at the other end to make it a nine-point affair.

The Jazz put the game away at the free throw line, and Jefferson capped his big game on an emotional night with the unlikeliest of three-pointers.

"A lot is weighing on his heart with what he's got going on at home, but he gave us a great effort," Harris said of Jefferson.

It was a single-digit game the first 36 minutes. Gordon Hayward's late bank shot gave the Jazz a 22-19 lead after the opening quarter, and Paul Millsap threw down an alley-oop dunk for a 52-48 edge just before the break.

Detroit shot 61 percent from the field in the third, which ended with two Stuckey free throws for a 77-75 Pistons advantage.

Game Notes

Jefferson was 0-for-23 in his career from behind the arc...The last time the Pistons won in Utah was November 6, 2002...Monroe and Gordon totaled 14 and 12 points, respectively, for Detroit, which fell to 3-16 on the road this season...Millsap recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds.
