Final
Warriors top Kings
Mar 14, 2012 - 7:21 AM Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - The shorthanded Warriors finished with six players in double figures to help defeat the Kings, 115-89, at Power Balance Pavilion on Tuesday. The big news came off the court shortly before the game, as Golden State agreed in principle to send Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh, and Kwame Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Andrew Bogut and former Warrior Stephen Jackson.
"I kind of figured something bad was going to happen today," said Ellis after hearing the news. "I was prepared for it. But I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to do what I do for the seven years I had here."
Golden State, which was also without the services of Stephen Curry because of a sprained right ankle, got 17 points from David Lee, Nate Robinson and Brandon Rush. Charles Jenkins chipped in 15 points, while Dorell Wright and Klay Thompson netted 14 apiece to give the Warriors their third straight victory.
"I'm awfully proud of these guys because it was an emotionally draining day for us," said Warriors head coach Mark Jackson. "We lost three guys that we are attached to, and it hurts. This is a business, but it hurts."
Sacramento was led by DeMarcus Cousins, who scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Tyreke Evans tallied 16 points and Isaiah Thomas added 15 as the Kings have now dropped two straight.
"We have got to approach every game the same way," Thomas said. "Other teams approach us like we're one of the top teams and they come in here and have good games."
Robinson filled the void left by Curry and Ellis in the first quarter as he connected on two three-pointers en route to 12 points to give the Warriors a 29-24 lead after one.
Golden State quickly pressed the lead to seven to start the second, but Cousins reeled off an 8-2 spurt by himself to leave the Kings trailing by just one 33-32.
Neither team was able to pull away in the second, as Wright's three-pointer at the halftime buzzer gave the Warriors a 54-49 lead heading into the locker room.
Wright kept the three-point stroke going in the third, knocking down three treys in the first five minutes of the quarter to give the Warriors a 67-56 lead as they maintained an 84-73 lead heading into the fourth
Golden State opened the fourth with an 11-2 run to press the lead to 95-75 and Sacramento never got close the rest of the way.
