Sixers turn up heat in late going, but Miami claims victory

Mar 17, 2012 - 6:09 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - LeBron James filled the stat sheet with 29 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, and the Miami Heat held off the Philadelphia 76ers, 84-78, on Friday.

Dwyane Wade added 12 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for the Heat, who nearly blew a 29-point second-half advantage.

"We'll learn from our mistakes," said James after the win. "But that won't take away from being on the road and getting a win against a very good team."

Miami won its 10th consecutive regular season game against Philadelphia, snapping a four-game road losing streak in the process.

Evan Turner netted 13 points to go with eight boards and five assists for the Sixers, who have lost two in a row following a three-game winning streak. Andre Iguodala added 11 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

"Obviously as disappointing as the first half was, the second half was encouraging," Sixers head coach Doug Collins said. "We didn't do anything different. We just competed."

The Sixers, who trailed 59-30 early in the third, stormed back and closed the frame on a 14-4 run to pull within 69-56 heading into the fourth.

After Udonis Haslem's jumper gave the Heat a 73-58 lead, the Sixers reeled off the next 10 points.

Young started the flurry with a fastbreak dunk and Jodie Meeks then hit a trey and layup on consecutive possessions. Turner capped the spurt with a triple, making it 73-68 midway through the frame.

Philadelphia didn't claw any closer until Lou Williams' step-back jumper made it 80-76 with 1:27 left.

After James nailed a pull-up jumper, Williams' got a floater along the left baseline to fall at the other end, making it 82-78 with 28.8 to play.

James then made a pair from the line, and Williams couldn't get his three to fall as Wade secured the rebound and win for Miami.

James nailed his first six shots from the floor and tallied 12 quick points as the Heat raced out to a 23-7 advantage with 4:53 remaining in the first quarter.

Miami took a 31-18 lead into the second, and after the Sixers trimmed the margin to 10, 38-28, the Heat regained control.

Philadelphia didn't register a field goal for the final 7:45 of the second quarter as Miami closed the opening half on a 19-2 run, taking a commanding 57-30 advantage into the locker room.

The Heat shot 54.8 percent from the field in the first half while the Sixers were a measly 25 percent from the floor. James had 18 points, eight assists and five rebounds to pace Miami.

The Heat hadn't dropped five consecutive games away from home since losing their final nine of 2007-08...Williams finished with 12 points and four assists...Miami shot 47.3 percent from the floor while the Sixers finished 35.5 percent from the field.
