Toronto outlasts Memphis in OT
Mar 17, 2012 - 6:26 AM Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Jerryd Bayless scored 28 points and dished out nine assists, as the visiting Toronto Raptors edged the Memphis Grizzlies, 114-110, in overtime Friday night."I think there was some times in the fourth quarter where we did some stupid things," remarked Bayless after the win, "but we were able to grind it out and win the game."
Gary Forbes had 20 points, while Andrea Bargnani and DeMar DeRozan supplied 18 points apiece for the Raptors, who improved to 2-1 on a five-game road trip and snapped a six-game losing streak to the Grizzlies.
Marc Gasol scored a season-high 28 points to pace Memphis, which forced overtime when Rudy Gay drained a game-tying three-pointer with under a second left in regulation.
Gay, who returned to the lineup after missing Tuesday's double-overtime setback to the Lakers with a concussion, finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out in the extra session.
The Grizzlies have dropped three of their last four games.
"They gave us a lot of opportunities to win the game and we kept shooting ourselves in the foot," said Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins. "We had our opportunities to win the game anyway and we didn't. But you have to give Toronto credit. They hung in there, showed some poise and they battled and got the win."
With Memphis trailing 112-109, Mike Conley drew a three-shot foul against Bayless, his sixth. Conley sank the first free throw with 4.8 showing on the clock but missed the second attempt -- a theme all night for the Grizzlies. Forced to miss the third attempt on purpose, the ball wound up going out of bounds off a teammate.
DeRozan then sealed the win at the charity stripe.
The Grizzlies made 51 trips to the foul line and converted only 31 times.
A bright spot for Memphis was the play of Zach Randolph. Sidelined since New Year's Day due to an MCL tear in his right knee, Randolph posted 25 points and nine rebounds in 24-plus minutes.
Toronto, which led by as many as 12 in the third quarter, was 29-of-38 from the foul line.
