Magic entertain Suns at Amway Center
Mar 21, 2012 - 2:47 PM (Sports Network) - The Orlando Magic will try to rebound from an embarrassing offensive performance when they entertain the playoff-hopeful Phoenix Suns in Central Florida. The Magic are a very solid 29-18 on the year and entrenched in the third spot of the Eastern Conference but managed just 59 points in their loss to NBA-best Chicago on Monday.
Orlando shot just 35 percent from the field (24-of-68) in the 85-59 setback at Amway Center and failed to score over 20 points in any quarter. Dwight Howard led the way with 18 points and 12 boards, while Ryan Anderson chipped in 10 points for the Magic, who saw a four-game home winning streak come to an end.
"We're just not building solid habits and making good enough decisions," said Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy. "If you don't guard all year, you won't guard in the playoffs. You'll be left with what you do."
The 59 points allowed by the Bulls marked a franchise record for fewest points allowed in a regular season game.
The Suns, meanwhile, had a four-game winning streak halted on Tuesday by dropping the opener of a four-game road trip in Miami. They gave the star- studded Heat all they could handle, however, in the 99-95 decision.
Grant Hill paced Phoenix with 19 points while Marcin Gortat added 13, Markieff Morris had 12 and Steve Nash chipped in nine and 10 assists.
"We just went through a dry spell," said Morris. "We were up 10, but we couldn't get anything to fall. They were getting the calls and they were making their shots."
Despite the loss, the Suns are still 9-3 since the All- Star break and have climbed to the 10th spot in the Western Conference, 1 1/2 games behind eighth place Houston.
Phoenix, which is 8-13 as the visitor on the season, will also visit Indiana and Cleveland on its trek.
Orlando has won two straight and four of five over the Suns.
