Duncan leads Spurs to rout of Mavs
Mar 24, 2012 - 4:34 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Tim Duncan recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Dallas Mavericks, 104-87.Danny Green added 18 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Spurs, who have won two in a row and five of six. Matt Bonner and Kawhi Leonard donated 14 and 12 points, respectively.
San Antonio played without guard Tony Parker (hamstring) and forward Tiago Splitter (back spasms).
"I thought the overall team defense was pretty good. That was probably the best part of the game. No matter who was out there, we were pretty aggressive," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said.
Jason Terry ended with 18 points for the Mavericks, who have lost two straight since a four-game winning streak. Dirk Nowitzki tallied 16 points.
Shawn Marion had 13 points after missing the previous three games with a sore left knee.
The Spurs led by as many as seven in the first quarter and took a 24-21 lead into the second.
Dallas got as close as two, 31-29, early in the second, but Bonner responded with a three-pointer. Leonard's reverse layup and Green's layup made it a 46-36 game with five minutes remaining.
San Antonio took a 52-45 edge into the locker room.
The Mavericks used a 10-2 run midway through the third quarter to take the lead. Jason Kidd's three-pointer made it 63-58 with 4:17 left.
But the Spurs scored the final 12 points of the frame to go back in front. Manu Ginobili and Gary Neal ended the stanza with a pair of three-pointers to give San Antonio a 70-63 lead.
After trading field goals to open the fourth, Ginobili and Stephen Jackson bookended an 8-0 flurry with a pair of three-pointers to make it 80-65.
It was a double-digit game the rest of the way.
"I had a brutal night. During the middle of the game I just could not get the ball in the rim. A lot of my shots were short. I did not have enough to get the ball in tonight," Nowitzki said.
