Nets try to finish off season sweep of Bobcats
Mar 24, 2012 - 2:56 PM (Sports Network) - The New Jersey Nets will try to halt a five-game losing streak and sweep their season series against the lowly Charlotte Bobcats when the two teams square off at The Rock.Three of New Jersey's 15 wins have come at the expense of the league-worst Bobcats, who are 7-38 on the season.
The Nets, who are opening up a three-game homestand tonight, dropped their fifth straight to Atlanta on Friday, a 93-84 setback in the Peach State. Deron Williams paced the New Jersey attack with 20 points and eight assists and Kris Humphries chipped in 17 points and eight rebounds in that one.
"I liked our focus. We had really positive energy and went into halftime with a one-point lead," said Nets head coach Avery Johnson. "We had a pretty good third quarter but unfortunately we didn't start off well in the fourth. Some silly turnovers turned the game around, especially when we were trying to give our starters a rest. We still hung in there, but couldn't close them out."
New Jersey, which is a dismal 5-18 as the host, will also take on Utah and Indiana during its residency.
Charlotte's latest losing streak reached two on Friday after a 112-92 loss to Milwaukee in the Queen City.
Gerald Henderson led all scorers with 29 points, Kemba Walker netted 13 points and handed out seven assists, and Derrick Brown had 13 points for the Bobcats, who have dropped four of their last five overall.
The Bucks held a 72-34 advantage in points in the paint and outrebounded the Bobcats, 47-37, to complete the road victory.
"You have to be tough-minded as well as physically tough and if you're not, those kinds of things happen," remarked Bobcats head coach Paul Silas after the loss. "We have to learn and we have to get better. That's just where we are right now."
Charlotte is just 3-21 on the road in 2011-12.
