Division leaders clash in the Alamo City as Spurs host Sixers

Mar 25, 2012 - 2:38 PM (Sports Network) - Division leaders will clash in the Alamo City Sunday when the San Antonio Spurs finish up a grueling three games in three nights stretch by hosting the Philadelphia 76ers.

San Antonio has traditionally been a house of horrors for the Sixers, who have dropped 23 of 24 in the city since the start of the 1986-87 season.

The Southwest Division-leading Spurs have a comfortable six-game lead over Dallas and have won the first two tests in their back-to-back-to-back, topping the Mavs in San Antonio on Friday before beating the Hornets, 89-86, in New Orleans on Saturday.

Danny Green made the go-ahead jumper with 41.8 seconds left in NOLA as the Spurs got past the Hornets.

DeJuan Blair scored 23 points to pace San Antonio while Stephen Jackson added 14, Tim Duncan 13 and Tony Parker, who returned after missing Friday's game with a tight hamstring, had 12 with 10 assists. The Spurs have won three straight and six of their last seven overall.

"I thought New Orleans was more efficient than we were and executed better than we did," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. "We just had to hang in there and keep plugging. That is probably the best thing we did, was keep on pushing and at the end of the game it worked out. So we were fortunate."

Manu Ginobili, who started in place of Parker on Friday, did not make the trip to the Big Easy due to a nagging hip injury while both Gary Neal (foot) and Tiago Splitter (back) also sat as Popovich continues to mix-and -match his lineup to get banged-up players some rest.

Popovich has already stated he may rest Duncan tonight.

The 76ers, meanwhile, got Doug Collins his 400th NBA coaching win on Friday and kept their place atop the Atlantic Division.

Elton Brand scored 20 points, Lou Williams had 19 off the bench and the Sixers used a dominant third quarter to take control in a 99-86 win over the Boston Celtics.

Six Philadelphia players scored in double digits and Brand got 14 of his 20 in the third quarter, when the Sixers outscored the Celtics 37-17 to overcome a six-point deficit at halftime.

Jrue Holiday added 15 points, Andre Iguodala scored 14 and Spencer Hawes and Thaddeus Young both had 12 in the win, which extended Philadelphia's precarious lead to 1 1/2 games over Boston atop the Atlantic.

"What a great night to beat the Celtics," said Collins. "This is twice they came in here and had a chance to knock us out of first place, and both times, we've taken care of business."
