Clippers' Paul seeks revenge vs. Hornets

Mar 26, 2012 - 2:50 PM (Sports Network) - Less than a week after losing to the Hornets in his return to New Orleans, Clippers All-Star Chris Paul will get another crack at his ex- team Monday at Staples Center.

The Hornets topped the Clippers in the Big Easy last Thursday, 97-90, behind Chris Kaman's 20 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Kaman, of course, was acquired from the Clippers in the blockbuster deal that sent Paul to Southern California before the season.

CP3 recorded 16 points and nine assists in his first game against his former team. The five-time All-Star was originally drafted by the Hornets with the fourth overall pick in 2005.

The Clippers managed to bounce back from their loss in NOLA and snapped a three-game skid by opening up a five-game homestand with a 101-85 rout of the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday.

Blake Griffin netted a game-high 20 points to go with 10 rebounds and five assists in that one.

Paul scored 19 points while handing out 13 assists, Randy Foye supplied 18 points and Nick Young had 16 off the bench for Los Angeles, which improved to 16-8 as the host. The Clippers had lost all three games on a back-to-back-to- back road trip before returning home.

Currently LA is the fourth seed in the Western Conference playoff standings and 2 1/2 games behind the Lakers for Pacific Division bragging rights.

The Hornets, meanwhile, couldn't follow up on their win over the Clips, falling to San Antonio on Saturday, 89-86.

Danny Green made the go-ahead jumper with 41.8 seconds left in that one as the Spurs got past New Orleans.

Jarrett Jack had 27 points for the Hornets but missed out on a chance to even the game in the waning seconds when he passed up a three-pointer and instead drove to the basket, where he failed to convert a contested layup.

"I was just trying to make a play at the basket," said Jack. "My legs were kind of tired at that particular point. I tried to muster it up there, and I just didn't have enough steam to get it up on the glass."

Carl Landry had 15 points off the bench for New Orleans while Marco Belinelli and Greivis Vasquez each added 10 points

The Hornets have won two straight and 16 of 17 overall versus the Clippers but most of that damage was done before Paul switched uniforms.
