Pacers aim to bounce back against Wizards
Mar 29, 2012 - 2:33 PM (Sports Network) - The Indiana Pacers will try to bounce back from a flat performance in New Jersey on Wednesday when they return home to take on the struggling Washington Wizards. The Pacers, who are currently the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt, followed up impressive wins against Milwaukee and Miami by laying an egg in the Garden State, falling to the lowly Nets 100-84.
Paul George netted 22 points to pace Indiana, which had beaten New Jersey 10 straight times coming in. Tyler Hansbrough contributed 13 points in defeat but Danny Granger was limited by foul trouble throughout the contest and held to five points on 2-of-8 shooting.
"Give credit to New Jersey for continuing to play hard and work to get victories when they are out of the playoff race," said Indiana head coach Frank Vogel.
The Wizards are suffering through another dismal season and come into Wednesday's contest with the second worst record in the NBA at 11-38.
Most recently, Washington lost its fourth straight game, coming up empty in a heartbreaker against Detroit, 79-77, in D.C. on Monday. Rodney Stuckey's jumper with 0.2 seconds remaining lifted the Pistons to the victory.
Stuckey, who came back after a three-game absence due to a toe injury, scored 12 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter and the Pistons overcame a 12-point deficit in the period to snap a five-game losing streak.
Jordan Crawford scored 20 points while John Wall added 14 with nine assists and seven rebounds for Washington, which has lost six of seven overall and is 0-20 this season when scoring under 90 points.
"You have to put teams away when you have them down," said Wizards interim coach Randy Wittman, whose team led by nine after three quarters. "We have to put them away and we haven't learned that."
The Pacers have won four straight over Washington, including a 85-83 win at Verizon Center on March 22.
