Nets continue road trip at Sacramento
Mar 31, 2012 - 3:13 PM (Sports Network) - The New Jersey Nets will resume a four-game road trip tonight in search of a season-high third straight win against the Sacramento Kings.New Jersey got the trek off to a good start with last night's 102-100 win at Golden State, as Gerald Green delivered the go-ahead basket in the final minute to help his team erase a 19-point hole in the third quarter. Deron Williams had nine points and 20 assists, while Green finished with 20 points.
Gerald Wallace led the Nets with 24 points and 18 rebounds.
"Our guys just persevered. We fought. Nobody really panicked," Nets coach Avery Johnson said.
Kris Humphries registered 20 points and nine rebounds for New Jersey, which posted back-to-back victories for the first time since March 7-9. New Jersey held a 44-32 rebounding edge and converted 17 turnovers into 28 points.
The Nets will also visit the Lakers and Blazers on the road swing and are 11-16 away from the Garden State.
Sacramento will begin a four-game homestand tonight versus the Nets, Timberwolves, Suns and Clippers, and is 13-11 in California's capital.
In a 104-103 victory at Utah on Friday, DeMarcus Cousins' free throw with 3.8 seconds remaining put the Kings on top and the big man finished with 27 points and 14 boards despite receiving stitches under his left eyebrow.
"It feels good, especially playing through the type of adversity we played through tonight," said Cousins, who has posted double-doubles in each of his last five games. "It was definitely a big win for us."
Marcus Thornton added 26 points and six rebounds for Sacramento, which halted a four-game losing streak and a five-game road slide. Isaiah Thomas had 19 points and six assists in the win. Kings guard Tyreke Evans (back) and forward John Salmons (hip) did not play against the Jazz and are questionable tonight.
Sacramento has scored 100 points or more in each of its last nine games.
The Kings and Nets are meeting for the first time this season and split a pair of matchups a year ago with each team prevailing as the host. New Jersey has dropped 11 of 12 and 13 of its last 15 trips to Sacramento.
