Spurs cruise past Hornets for 10th straight win

Apr 7, 2012 - 4:40 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Tim Duncan had 19 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals, as the red-hot San Antonio Spurs cruised past the New Orleans Hornets, 128-103.

Manu Ginobili and Patrick Mills each added 14 points for the Spurs, who have won 10 in a row. Stephen Jackson and Gary Neal donated 13 points apiece.

"At the end of the day it's about getting the job done," Jackson said. "It's about winning games. At this point no one is worried about who's starting and who's coming off the bench, we are trying to get wins. We are trying to see the bigger goal and that's winning a championship."

San Antonio shot 60.7 percent from the field and 9-of-18 from three-point range while improving to 22-4 at home this season. The win moved the Spurs percentage points ahead of the Thunder for first place in the Western Conference. Oklahoma City lost to Indiana on Friday.

Eric Gordon had 31 points in his second game back for the Hornets, who fell to 14-41 on the season. Marco Belinelli and Carl Landry ended with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

The Hornets led 11-10 with 7:56 left in the first quarter, but it was all Spurs from that point on. DeJuan Blair's slam and Duncan's jumper gave the home team a 14-11 edge.

Holding an 18-16 margin with 4:59 remaining, the Spurs went on a 9-2 spurt to create some distance. Ginobili tallied seven points during the flurry to help make it a 27-18 contest.

San Antonio shot 71.4 percent from the field in the period and took a 34-24 lead into the second.

A pair of Jackson free throws and Daniel Green's three-pointer made it 45-28 with 8:45 left until half.

After the Hornets scored the next seven points to make it a 10-point contest, San Antonio ended the half on a 27-10 run. Ginobili tallied seven points during the burst, including a layup with 3.9 seconds remaining to make it 72-45.

San Antonio cruised to victory in the second half.

"They (San Antonio) have won championships and they know how to win," Hornets guard Greivis Vasquez said. "They have Manu, Duncan, and Parker and everybody else doing their job, but they just played a lot harder than us tonight. They made some good additions and they are a good team."
