Improving Nets host Irving-less Cavs

Apr 8, 2012 - 2:35 PM (Sports Network) - A pair of teams playing out the string will meet in the Garden State on Easter Sunday when the New Jersey Nets play host to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Both clubs are coming off wins. Gerald Wallace and Deron Williams led five Nets in double-figures with 19 points apiece on Friday as New Jersey easily dispatched the Washington Wizards, 110-98.

The Nets set season-highs in field goal percentage (56.3 percent) and assists (32) in the contest.

MarShon Brooks finished with 18 points, Anthony Morrow netted 17 and Jordan Williams scored a career-high 14 for the Nets, who picked up a win in the first game of their second-to-last three-game homestand at Prudential Center.

New Jersey, of course, will move to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY next season and become the Brooklyn Nets.

"We've been pretty good here in this little stretch that we've been in," Nets head coach Avery Johnson said of his team which has won five of eight overall. "We've played good basketball."

Off the floor the team announced that center Brook Lopez will miss the remainder of the season with a sprained right ankle. The Stanford product averaged 19.2 points in just five contests in a injury plagued season and is set to become a restricted free agent.

Cleveland, meanwhile, snapped a season-high nine-game skid on Friday when Antawn Jamison scored 16 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Cavaliers earned an 84-80 win over the Raptors at Air Canada Centre.

Lester Hudson added a career-high 23 points and handed out seven assists off the bench for the Cavs, who were without star rookie point guard Kyrie Irving (shoulder) and backcourt mate Anthony Parker (bruised sternum). Samardo Samuels chipped in 10 points and seven boards.

"I'm very proud of my team and the way my team played," said Cleveland head coach Byron Scott. "We're starting to get back to competing. We did it the other night in Milwaukee and we did it tonight down 13."

Both Irving and Parker will remain sidelined tonight

The Cavs have won two of three against New Jersey this season, including a 105-100 victory in Newark on March 19 when rookie Tristan Thompson netter a career-high 27 points and 12 rebounds.
