Heat aim to bounce back vs. Pistons

Apr 8, 2012 - 2:35 PM (Sports Network) - The Miami Heat will try to bounce back from their first home loss in well over two months when they square off with the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.

Fresh off one of their most impressive wins of the season, the Heat rolled out a stinker on Friday, falling to Memphis 97-82. Rudy Gay scored 17 points to lead the Grizzlies, who snapped Miami's 17-game home winning streak in what was a wire-to-wire victory.

The Heat's home run was the best in the NBA this season and ended one win shy of the franchise record of 18 set during the 2004-05 season. Their previous loss at AmericanAirlines Arena came Jan. 22 to Milwaukee.

LeBron James had 21 points, including 11 in the third quarter as Miami tried to rally, while Dwyane Wade scored 20 and Chris Bosh added 19.

The Heat were coming off a 98-93 victory over the then Western Conference- leading Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, but trailed by as many as 19 points in the first half against the Grizzlies and by as much as 21 down the stretch. It marked the first time Miami trailed from start-to-finish at home since a similar effort against Boston on Nov. 11, 2010.

"We showed a little bit of resolve to continue to compete," said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra "(But) you have to give Memphis credit. They kicked our butt."

The Pistons, meanwhile, lost for the first time in four games in Atlanta on Friday, 101-96.

Rodney Stuckey scored 27 points to pace Detroit. Will Bynum contributed 15 points off the bench and Brandon Knight finished with 13 in a losing effort.

"He pretty much killed us tonight," Stuckey said about Hawks guard Jeff Teague, who matched a career-high with 24 points and dished out a season-high 11 assists. "They were just getting in the paint all night and getting offensive rebounds. So credit them but we were still in the game."

The Heat, who are still an NBA-best 23-3 at home, and have won 11 of 12 overall versus the Pistons and six straight since James and Bosh relocated to South Florida.
