Williams, 76ers race past Nets to snap skid

Apr 11, 2012 - 4:19 AM Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Lou Williams paced five Sixers in double figures with 20 points, and Philadelphia posted a 107-88 win over the New Jersey Nets at Prudential Center.

Spencer Hawes and Thaddeus Young both totaled 19 points and eight rebounds for the Sixers, who resumed their playoff push by snapping a four-game losing streak.

"We had to get this win," said Sixers forward Elton Brand.

Philadelphia entered Tuesday's contest tied with New York for seventh in the Eastern Conference standings. The Knicks, though, lost on the road to Chicago.

With the win, the Sixers moved two games ahead of the ninth-place Milwaukee Bucks, who were idle.

Kris Humphries posted a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead New Jersey, which was outscored 64-48 over the second and third quarters.

Deron Williams had 14 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Nets, who had won five of their previous seven games.

"It was just double-teams all night. They did a good job of taking us out of our offense. They play great defense," Williams said.

The Sixers got off to a slow start, falling behind by eight in the first quarter before battling back to pull even at 20 after 12 minutes.

Philadelphia then shot 52.2 percent in the second quarter, and a Lou Williams three-pointer put the visitors up 52-43 at halftime.

New Jersey opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run, but Philadelphia built its first double-digit lead, 61-51, on Nikola Vucevic's tip-in off a Brand miss.

The advantage grew to 82-64 on two Lou Williams free throws inside the frame's final minute, and the outcome was never in doubt as the Sixers led by as many as 23 in the fourth quarter.
