Harangody helps Cavs top Wizards
Apr 15, 2012 - 4:52 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Luke Harangody scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Cleveland Cavaliers downed the Washington Wizards, 98-89, at Verizon Center.Harangody, who was recalled from the Cavs' D-League affiliate in Canton earlier on Saturday, went 6-of-11 from the field and also had three steals. It was his first NBA game since March 2.
"It's night and day since the beginning of the season. My shot right now...I'm just so confident," Harangody said.
Every Cleveland starter scored in double digits as Anthony Parker had 15 points, Tristan Thompson added 14, Donald Sloan finished with 13 and Alonzo Gee netted 11 in the Cavaliers' third win in six games.
John Wall had 19 points and nine assists to pace Washington, which lost for the 12th time in 15 games. Jordan Crawford contributed 18 points in defeat.
"We didn't have that sense of urgency," Wizards head coach Randy Wittman said.
A back-and-forth first quarter that saw five lead changes ended with Manny Harris connecting on a three-pointer within the final minute to send the game into the second quarter tied, 22-22.
Cleveland then opened the second with a 7-1 spurt and never trailed for the remainder of the contest.
The Wizards managed to close the deficit to two near the midpoint of the frame after Wall netted four straight points, but the Cavaliers answered with an 8-2 push to stretch their lead back up to 41-33. They kept Washington at arm's length for the rest of the half en route to a 50-43 lead at the break.
Washington opened the third with a 9-2 run to knot the game at 52, but Thompson put an end to the swing with a short jumper to put the Cavs on top and spark an 11-2 spurt to stretch the edge to 63-54.
The Wizards, though, would not go quietly and battled back to trail, 73-71, at the end of the third.
After an early Cartier Martin trey brought Washington within one, 79-78, in the fourth, Cleveland reeled off a 14-5 spurt to run out to a 93-83 advantage with a little over four minutes left in the game and the Wizards never threatened again.
