Heat try to stay hot against Nets
Apr 16, 2012 - 2:55 PM (Sports Network) - Fresh off claiming the Southeast Division title, the Miami Heat will get back to work in the Garden State searching for a 10th straight win over the New Jersey Nets.Despite their recent road woes against teams with winning records, the Heat had an opportunity to turn their struggles away from AmericanAirlines Arena around against one of the hottest home teams in the NBA on Sunday and did exactly that.
LeBron James had 29 points and 10 rebounds, while Dwyane Wade added 28 points, nine rebounds and four assists as the Heat used an elongated run in the fourth quarter to snap the New York Knicks' nine-game home winning streak with a 93-85 victory, clinching the Southeast Division crown in the process.
"We haven't played to our capabilities on the road since the break. It's good to come in this building to a team that's won nine straight on this floor and to get a win in a really tough game, we did a good job," James said.
Chris Bosh scored 16 points and snatched 14 rebounds for Miami, which lost eight of its prior nine road games to teams with a winning mark coming in.
The Heat outrebounded the Knicks 47-33 and swept the season series. Miami is 3 1/2 games behind Chicago for the top spot in the Eastern Conference with only seven to play so the club is likely to land in the No. 2 spot for the postseason.
The Nets, meanwhile, are playing out the string and are coming off a home loss to the Celtics, 94-82, on Saturday.
Gerald Green had 15 points to lead New Jersey, which was coming off of a victory over the 76ers. Deron Williams and Jordan Williams both scored 12. D-Will added 14 assists and Williams finished with a career-high 14 rebounds.
"We were moving the ball well in the first quarter," said Deron Williams. "They just made adjustments after that and that was all she wrote."
