Heat down Denver as injured Wade sits out
Nov 16, 2012 - 8:42 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Minus Dwyane Wade, the Miami Heat managed to snap a 10-game losing skid in Denver.LeBron James registered a 27-point, 12-assist double-double, Shane Battier hit six 3-pointers and the Heat posted a 98-93 win over the Nuggets.
Chris Bosh had 14 points and Mike Miller added 12 for Miami, which improved to 3-2 on its six-game road trip. Wade sat out the club's first win in Denver since Jan. 29, 2002 with a sprained left foot.
Andre Miller came off the bench to lead six Denver players in double figures with 19 points, 17 coming in the second half. JaVale McGee scored 18 points and Kenneth Faried posted his fifth consecutive double-double with 16 points and 20 rebounds.
Danilo Gallinari supplied 13 points for the Nuggets, who suffered their second straight loss on the heels of a four-game winning streak.
"We have to do the dirty work a little bit more," said Denver coach George Karl.
The Nuggets never led in the game, but did close to within 92-91 on two Andre Iguodala free throws with 1:37 remaining in the fourth quarter.
After Miami's Ray Allen and Gallinari each missed from beyond the arc, Norris Cole hit a three from the corner. The Nuggets then couldn't convert putbacks from inside and James pushed Miami's lead to six with two free throws.
Iguodala answered with a dunk before Allen made 1-of-2 foul shots. Jordan Hamilton then knocked down a trey for Denver, but he did so after being called for traveling. The turnover sealed the win for Miami.
"We played a great game through three quarters," James said. "We knew they were going to make a run."
The Heat led 28-20 after the first quarter and took a 54-42 advantage into the break. Battier drained a 3-pointer to put the Heat up 70-51 with 6:17 remaining in the third quarter.
Game Notes
Miami's Mario Chalmers left the game with a strained right triceps muscle ... Hamilton had 11 points and Iguodala scored 10 ...Denver outrebounded the Heat 59-42 and outscored them 50-24 in the paint.
