Terry, Celtics bury Raptors
Nov 17, 2012 - 10:00 PM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Jason Terry made four 3-pointers en route to 20 points, as the Boston Celtics took down the Toronto Raptors, 107-89, on Saturday.Rajon Rondo returned to the lineup and dished out 20 assists for the Celtics, who bounced back from a 102-97 loss to the Nets on Thursday. Rondo missed that game with a sprained right ankle.
"He's [like] Peyton Manning out there," Boston's Courtney Lee said of Rondo. "He's picking the defense apart and he's getting the ball to guys in the right position to score. He was actually mad about the 20 assists -- he thought he could have gotten 30."
Paul Pierce added 19 points and six rebounds for Boston, which improved to 6-4 on the young season. Kevin Garnett tallied 15 points and Jared Sullinger recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
Andrea Bargnani and John Lucas III ended with 15 points apiece for the Raptors, who have lost nine straight games in Boston. Jose Calderon, DeMar DeRozan, Linas Kleiza and Terrence Ross all tallied 10 points.
Boston shot a sizzling 73.7 percent from the floor in the first quarter, which allowed them to jump out to a 30-17 lead.
Boston's lead reached 16 early in the second period, but Toronto responded with a 9-2 spurt. Lucas' 3-pointer cut the gap to 35-26 with 7:16 to go.
Trailing 40-28, the Raptors went on an 11-2 run to make it close. Another Lucas 3-pointer made it a 42-39 game with 2:35 left. The Celtics, though, were able to keep the lead and held a 47-42 margin at the break.
"We were getting stops and it allowed us to run, get those easy buckets in transition," said Raptors head coach Dwane Casey. "And that's what it was that got us to run, and we had a rhythm going."
It remained close for most of the third frame. However, Boston bridged the third and fourth quarters with a 19-2 run. Terry tallied eight points during the surge that Sullinger capped with a pair of free throws to make it 85-64 with 10:34 to play.
"We had a bad defensive stretch and they went up about 20 points and that was the game right there," Bargnani remarked.
The Celtics cruised to victory from there.
