Lakers get balanced attack, rout Mavs
Nov 25, 2012 - 5:09 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Antawn Jamison amassed 19 points and 15 rebounds to pace a balanced scoring attack that propelled the Los Angeles Lakers to a long-awaited first road win of the season, a 115-89 dismantling of the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center. In by far their most impressive performance under new head coach Mike D'Antoni, the Lakers had six players finish with double-figure points and dominated the glass in halting a two-game losing streak. Kobe Bryant and Metta World Peace also netted 19 points, with Dwight Howard compiling 15 points and five steals in the rout.
Los Angeles, which improved to 2-2 under D'Antoni's command and began the season 0-4 on the road, owned a lopsided 61-39 rebounding advantage, limited the Mavericks to 37 percent shooting and led by as many as 37 points.
"It started on the defensive end," said Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle. "They had a lot of blow-by's at the beginning of the game. They played a great game and we were really poor. I credit them, we all own this one...they are physically stronger than us."
Vince Carter had 16 points and Jae Crowder posted a career-high 15 in Dallas' sixth defeat in nine games following a 4-1 start to the season.
The Lakers imposed their will quickly, putting together an 11-2 run to grab an 18-8 lead midway through the first quarter and stretching the margin out to 16 points three minutes later, when Bryant made a pair of free throws to make the score 31-15.
"We came out with a lot of energy tonight on both ends," said Howard. "Everybody was active and we really ran the floor well tonight. We played great defense and were able to score."
Dallas countered with an 8-2 surge capped by a Dominique Jones dunk to cut the deficit to 10 in the final minute of the first. They would get no closer the rest of the way.
World Peace buried the fourth of his five baskets from beyond the arc as the Lakers ended the period up 36-23, then recorded the first seven points of the second quarter to extend the differential to 20.
Bryant's 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds left in the half sent Los Angeles into the break possessing a 65-38 lead, and the Lakers continued to roll in the third quarter, with the spread reaching as high as 37 points after reserve point guard Chris Duhon knocked down a triple to put Los Angeles ahead by an 85-48 count.
The Mavericks never whittled the lead down under 22 points thereafter.
