Nuggets down reeling Hornets
Nov 26, 2012 - 6:27 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Andre Iguodala scored a game-high 23 points on Sunday night, as the Denver Nuggets downed the New Orleans Hornets, 102-84, at Pepsi Center.Ty Lawson followed with 17 points and six assists, and Kenneth Faried registered a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds to help the Nuggets earn their fourth straight victory.
"We did enjoy ourselves out there tonight," Faried admitted. "We just played Nuggets basketball, and that's what we have to do every night."
Brian Roberts paced the Hornets with 17 points off the bench and Ryan Anderson chipped in 16 points for New Orleans, which has lost seven in a row.
"There are not many things to take away from a game like this," New Orleans coach Monty Williams said of the loss. "We have guys on our roster who don't understand how we've played here the last couple years. I just didn't think we had enough, whatever you want to call it, from the start of the game."
First overall pick Anthony Davis missed his fourth straight game with a stress reaction in his left ankle.
Faried finished a layup with less than a second left in the opening period to send the Nuggets into the second holding a 26-23 advantage.
New Orleans quickly erased the deficit with the first three points of the second stanza, but an Iguodala jumper sparked a 14-2 Denver surge, which Lawson capped with a layup to make it 40-28 with 5:15 left in the half.
Anderson answered with back-to-back 3-pointers to start a 10-0 Hornets' sprint, but Denver closed the half on an 11-3 swing to take a 51-41 advantage into the locker room.
The Nuggets quickly pressed their lead to 17 early in the third on a Danilo Gallinari triple and held a 78-50 lead with just under four minutes left in the quarter after seven straight points from Lawson.
Denver held an 83-61 margin after three frames and led by double digits throughout the fourth en route to the victory.
