Grizzlies stay hot, blow past Raptors

Nov 29, 2012 - 7:28 AM Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Reserve Marreese Speights led five Memphis players in double figures with 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Grizzlies topped the Toronto Raptors, 103-82, behind a decisive third quarter.

Zach Randolph posted 17 points, 13 boards and six assists for the Grizzlies, who improved to 11-2 on the young season. Marc Gasol also scored 17 points and Mike Conley added 16 after missing one game with flu-like symptoms.

Clinging to a one-point halftime lead, Memphis shot 72.2 percent while outscoring Toronto 33-14 in the third quarter. The Raptors were held to 23.5 percent shooting (4-of-17) during the frame.

"Our defense was overwhelming in the third quarter. It was just outstanding," Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins said.

DeMar DeRozan had 16 points to pace Toronto, which suffered its sixth straight loss. Kyle Lowry and reserve Jose Calderon scored 12 points apiece.

"It hurts, but it's supposed to hurt when you get spanked like that," Toronto head coach Dwane Casey said.

Memphis raced out to a nine-point lead before the Raptors surged ahead with an 11-0 run. Linas Kleiza hit a reverse layup to make it 21-19 with just under three minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Toronto grabbed its largest advantage at 29-24 when DeRozan opened the second quarter with a jumper. From that point on, the teams went back-and-forth and the Grizzlies went into the break up 48-47.

Memphis started the third quarter on an 11-1 burst and used a dominant inside game to build a 20-point cushion. Twenty-two of the Grizzlies' points were scored in the paint.

The outcome was never in doubt over the final 12 minutes.
