Warriors fend off Nuggets

Nov 30, 2012 - 7:56 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - David Lee had a game-high 31 points along with nine rebounds and six assists as Golden State barely survived to take a 106-105 win over Denver.

Klay Thompson posted 21 points and nine rebounds, while Stephen Curry added 20 points and 10 assists for the Warriors, who have won four of their last five games.

Andre Iguodala had 22 points, while Danilo Gallinari added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Nuggets, who have dropped their past two after winning four straight.

The Warriors trailed by as many as 16 in the third quarter, but cut the deficit to eight heading into the fourth and took their first lead since the second quarter with a 6-0 run capped by a Lee layup that made it a 94-93 game with just over six minutes to play.

The game stayed close for the next several possessions until Curry buried a long 3 to give the Warriors a 102-97 advantage with 3:31 to play.

Ty Lawson, though, was fouled as he hit a layup and made the free shot while Iguodala followed a Curry miss with a layup to tie the game with three minutes to play.

After misses at each end, Lee put in a tough bucket to give Golden State a 104-102 lead with two minutes left.

Corey Brewer was fouled with 1:27 to play, but hit just one of his chances and Jarrett Jack answered with a bucket at the other end for a 106-103 advantage with 1:12 left to play in the game.

Lawson then lost the ball, but Golden State was unable to take advantage as Jack missed a shot at the other end. Gallinari and Jack misses at each end were then followed with a foul on Iguodala as he was trying to shoot a 3- pointer with 3.4 seconds left.

He hit the first two free throws, but then missed the final one. However, the ball went out of bounds off a Golden State player and the Nuggets had the ball back with 2.1 seconds left.

Denver went for the alley-oop pass, but the ball wasn't handled cleanly and went out of bounds with 0.5 seconds to play with Denver getting the ball.

Iguodala caught the ball at the left side and drained a 3-pointer, but he didn't get the shot off before the buzzer and Golden State took the win.

Golden State came roaring out of the game as the team scored 13 of the first 16 points and eventually took a 30-25 lead into the second quarter.

Trailing by six with just over six minutes to play in the second, Denver dominated the rest of the frame as a 3-pointer from Gallinari, followed by a layup from Lawson and 3-ball by Jordan Hamilton gave the team its first lead of the game at 47-45.

After a Curry jumper tied it, Denver ended the half with a 13-4 run to take a 60-51 advantage into the break.

Denver continued to pour it on in the third quarter, leading by 16 points after consecutive 3-pointers from Lawson gave the team a 73-57 advantage 3 1/2 minutes in.

Golden State, though, kept it close and got the final four points of the frame on jumpers from Jack and Draymond Green to make it an 86-78 game heading to the final frame.

"We fully understood that it wasn't going to be easy," said Warriors coach Mark Jackson.

Denver had won three straight in the series ... Golden State shot 51.2 percent, while Denver made 45.2 percent of its shots ... Lawson finished the game with 17 points and nine assists ... Jack supplied 18 points and five assists.
