Nuggets try to bounce back vs. sliding Bobcats

Dec 22, 2012 - 3:59 PM (Sports Network) - It's probably safe to say that the Denver Nuggets worked on their shooting during their off day.

After setting an unwanted NBA record last time out, the Nuggets seek a rebound effort on Saturday night as they battle the Charlotte Bobcats.

Taking aim at a fourth straight victory on Thursday, Denver was instead bested by the Portland Trail Blazers 101-93. The Nuggets missed all 22 of their attempts from behind the three-point line, setting a new record.

Denver got 74 of its points in the paint as it made just one field goal in addition to 17 free throws.

"I don't think anybody took a bad three," Denver coach George Karl said of his team's record-setting futility from long range. "If you're going to have that line out there, you have to use it. You need to shoot around 33 percent and we were far from that tonight."

Ty Lawson, Andre Iguodala and Corey Brewer each scored 13 points in the setback, Denver's sixth straight in Portland.

The Nuggets have won five straight at home overall.

Denver has an excellent chance at getting back on track Saturday against a Charlotte team that has the NBA's longest active losing streak at 14 games.

The Bobcats, who last won on Nov. 24 in Washington, were dealt a 115-100 loss Friday night at Golden State. David Lee posted a triple-double for the Warriors and Stephen Curry added eight 3-pointers in the win.

"They're going to have presence all year long, and we're not the only ones that are going to struggle defending them," Charlotte head coach Mike Dunlap said of Lee and Curry.

The Bobcats received 23 points from Gerald Henderson and Bismack Biyombo posted 12 points and 14 rebounds in the setback.

"It's tough, it's tough. To play as hard as we play at times and then still come up short," said Charlotte's Kemba Walker. "But at the same time, we're still a young team, we're still trying to learn this game, we're still trying to become a better team. We're still getting better as the season's going on. That's all we can really think about right now."

The loss dropped Charlotte to 2-9 as the guest this season and the club will try to salvage a win in the finale of a four-game road trip on Saturday.

The Nuggets won the lone meeting between these teams a season ago, recording a 99-88 victory in Charlotte.

Denver is 6-1 all-time at home against the Bobcats.
