Raptors take out Magic
Dec 30, 2012 - 5:30 AM Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - DeMar DeRozan poured in 21 points to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 123-88 dismantling of the Orlando Magic on Saturday.Ed Davis added 18 points and Jose Calderon had 15 points and 10 assists for the Raptors, who have won seven of their last eight.
"It's about sharing the ball and finding the wide-open guy," Calderon said. "We know if we make that extra pass, then the next play will result in that guy making the extra pass. It's about trust."
Kyle Lowry and Terrence Ross chipped in with 16 point apiece in the triumph.
Andrew Nicholson had a career-high 22 points and seven rebounds and Arron Afflalo added 14 points and six assists for the Magic, who were without Jameer Nelson because of a sore hip.
Afflalo's 3-pointer at the 6:28 mark first put Orlando up 15-11, but Toronto opened up a 21-10 surge to take a 36-21 lead after the first 12 minutes.
The Raptors stayed hot in the second quarter, pushing their lead to 49-29 following Alan Anderson's trey 4 1/2 minutes into the frame.
Orlando, though, was able to cut the deficit to 57-41 with just under four minutes left in the half, but Toronto used a 10-6 sequence to take a 67-47 cushion into the break.
Davis' jumper four minutes into the third put the Raptors up 75-55, but a 10-1 Orlando burst cut the deficit to 76-65 a bit later.
A pair of Lowry free throws put Toronto up 87-69 with just over 1 1/2 minutes left in the period before Nicholson's jumper made it 87-71 entering the final frame.
The Magic couldn't get closer than 17 in the fourth as they were handed their fifth straight loss.
"It was a heck of a start for (Toronto). They made shots and got a lot of confidence going early and it made it a tough, uphill battle for us the rest of the night," Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said admitted.
Game Notes
Toronto shot 56.1 percent (46-for-82) from the floor and went 15-for-27 from long range ... Anderson finished with 11 points ... The Magic went just 5- for-18 from behind the arc.
