Mavs hope to rebound, visit Jazz

Jan 7, 2013 - 3:35 PM (Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks are stuck in a rut and hope an upcoming three-game road trip will get them back on track. The trek starts Monday night against the Utah Jazz at Energy Solutions Arena.

The Mavericks have just two wins in their last 13 games and suffered a 99-96 overtime loss versus the New Orleans Hornets Saturday in Big D. Dirk Nowitzki scored 20 points in his first start of the season and Vince Carter ended with 17 off the bench for Dallas, which fell to 0-7 in overtime games this season.

"This is just a tough time and it's important that everybody sticks together and we've got to fight through it," Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle said.

O.J. Mayo finished with 14 points in the loss.

Dallas will also visit the Clippers and Kings on the trek and is just 5-14 as the guest this season.

Mavs forward Brandan Wright is questionable Monday with a strained quadriceps. Nowitzki, who missed the start of the season to recover from knee surgery, has 8,461 career field goals and needs seven baskets to pass Allen Iverson (8,467) for 23rd on the all-time field goals made list.

Carter is 36 points shy of passing Hal Greer (21,586) for 30th place on the all-time scoring list. Shawn Marion is 10 games away from 1,000 in his career.

Utah is struggling as well, having lost six of its last nine games.

In a 110-91 loss at Denver on Saturday, Paul Millsap finished with 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the way.

"They knocked down some shots. I think we gave them way too many easy looks in the paint," Jazz forward Gordon Hayward said after scoring 14 points off the bench.

Marvin Williams and Al Jefferson scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Jazz, who shot just 35.9 percent and scored 27 points off 19 Denver turnovers. The Jazz, though, committed 19 turnovers as well and had a two-game winning streak come to an end.

The Jazz, who are 10-4 in Salt Lake City, will open a three-game road Wednesday against Charlotte, Atlanta and Detroit.

Utah handed Dallas a 113-94 defeat on Oct. 31, but has dropped 10 of the previous 15 meetings between the teams. The Mavericks have lost two straight and seven of its last 10 as the guest in this series.
