Nets feast on sluggish Sixers
Jan 9, 2013 - 5:24 AM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Deron Williams scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting and handed out five assists as the Brooklyn Nets blasted the Philadelphia 76ers, 109-89, on Tuesday at Wells Fargo Center.Andray Blatche netted 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds and Joe Johnson finished with 15 points and five assists for the Nets, who have won four in a row. Brook Lopez added 13 points and Reggie Evans contributed a career- high 23 rebounds in the victory.
"(Reggie) gave us an opportunity to get out and run, push the ball," Brooklyn swingman Gerald Wallace said. "When you're not so much concerned about rebounding because he's cleaning up all the boards, you have more guys out on the fast break."
Jrue Holiday netted a team-high 19 points and dished out eight assists while Spencer Hawes added 14 points for the Sixers, who have dropped four straight and six of seven. Nick Young donated 11 points in a losing effort.
Leading by one at halftime, the Nets exploded out of the locker room, beginning the third quarter with an 18-2 surge to take control of the game for good.
Lopez and Williams combined for 10 points during the run, which was capped by a Williams pullup jumper to give the visitors a 66-49 lead with 5:57 to play in the period.
Philadelphia never regained its footing after that and Mirza Teletovic's tip- in gave the Nets an 81-58 lead late in the third.
Brooklyn carried an 83-61 advantage into the fourth before rolling through the final frame, leading by as many as 26 en route to the easy triumph.
"It looked like we had no energy at all," Sixers coach Doug Collins said of his team's slow start in the second half. "They started hitting every shot and we couldn't get any stops. It just snowballed from there."
The teams traded baskets early on as a pullup jumper by Holiday put the Sixers on top, 13-11 with 4:56 to play in the quarter.
Lopez netted an easy layup to ignite the Nets on an 11-2 burst, capped by a corner trey from Keith Bogans, to put the visitors up 22-15 with 2:48 left. Philadelphia battled back and cut the deficit to two, and Brooklyn held a 26-24 advantage after one quarter.
Hawes hit a jumper on the Sixers' first possession of the second quarter to tie things at 26, but the Nets then ripped off six quick points to take a 32-26 advantage less than three minutes into the second session.
Philadelphia answered with an 8-2 burst to tie it again, this time at 34. It remained a one-possession contest until Lopez scored on a driving layup to give Brooklyn a 43-38 edge with 3:29 left before the half.
Williams made three from the line after getting fouled on a 3-point attempt to put the Nets ahead by four, but Hawes drained his second 3-ball of the game to make it 48-47 at the break.
