Raptors roll over Sixers

Jan 10, 2013 - 5:10 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Amir Johnson recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, as the Toronto Raptors beat the Philadelphia 76ers, 90-72, on Wednesday.

DeMar DeRozan added 19 points for the Raptors, who snapped a two-game skid. Ed Davis donated 17 points and nine boards, while Jose Calderon scored 14 points and dished out 11 assists.

"That was an Eastern Conference grinder," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. "You talk about one of the top defensive teams, Doug (Collins) is always going to coach a tough style of basketball. Our guys did a good job, shorthanded and grinded it out. Everybody who stepped in tonight did a solid job."

Jrue Holiday and Thaddeus Young ended with 16 points apiece for the Sixers, who have lost five straight. Evan Turner tallied 10 points and seven boards.

With the score tied at 14 with 4:50 left in the first quarter, the Raptors went on a 10-0 run to create some distance. DeRozan capped the surge with a pair of free throws to make it 24-14.

Philadelphia managed to score the final seven points of the period, cutting the gap to 24-21.

Toronto scored the first six points of the second stanza to build a 30-21 lead. The Raptors stayed in front and held a 38-30 edge with 4:48 to go, but Philadelphia scored the next six points to close the gap.

The Raptors took a 42-40 margin into the locker room.

Toronto started to create some distance again late in the third quarter. With the score tied at 51 with midway through the frame, the Raptors went on an 11-2 run. Calderon tallied six points during the burst, including a long jumper with 3:19 remaining to make it 62-53.

The home team took a 71-61 margin into the fourth. The Raptors ended the game on an 8-0 spurt to turn the contest into a rout. Landry Fields capped the flurry with an alley-oop slam.

"We just had nothing left," Sixers coach Doug Collins said.

Game Notes

Philadelphia fell to 2-1 against Toronto this season ... Raptors guard Terrence Ross (ankle) and forward Linas Kleiza (knee) missed the game ... Toronto shot 48.8 percent from the floor, while the Sixers made 39.2 percent of their shots.
