Cavs make a stop in Sacramento
Jan 14, 2013 - 3:46 PM (Sports Network) - It's been a rough western road trip so far for the Cleveland Cavaliers and they will resume their five-game trek Monday night against the Sacramento Kings. The Cavs opened the trip with Friday's loss at Denver and are coming off a 113-93 setback to the Los Angeles Lakers two days later. Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters both scored 15 points and Alonzo Gee added 14 in defeat, Cleveland's seventh in the past nine tries.
Tristan Thompson ended with 14 points for the Cavaliers, who shot 41.1 percent for the game and made only 4-of-21 3-pointers. The Lakers, who ended a six- game slide, scored 27 points off 16 turnovers, but committed 22 turnovers themselves.
"There are going to be some bumps. We know that. We're not going to use that youth thing as a crutch, but there's some nights where we're playing a veteran team, and tonight it showed," Cavs guard C.J. Miles said.
Cleveland, which is winless in three straight road games, is 5-18 away from home and still has Portland and Utah left on the western sojourn.
Sacramento will continue its five-game homestand Monday and is mired in a four-game losing streak.
The Kings fell to 0-3 on the residency with Saturday's 128-99 blowout at the hands of the Miami Heat as Isaiah Thomas finished with a career-best 34 points and five assists. DeMarcus Cousins contributed 11 points, eight boards and four assists for Sacramento, which is 10-10 at home.
Miami's Mario Chalmers tied a franchise record by connecting on 10 3-pointers en route to a career-high 34 points. LeBron James added 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds in the win.
"Sometimes when a team gets into a zone there's nothing you can do about it," Kings coach Keith Smart said.
Sacramento shot the ball well, making 43.7 percent from the floor and 9-of-18 3-pointers. Thomas buried six of those 3-pointers (6-of-8)
The Kings will close out the homestand Wednesday versus Washington and recently defeated Cleveland, 97-94, on Jan. 2 at Quicken Loans Arena. The Cavaliers, though, have still won 10 of the last 12 meetings.
Cleveland is unbeaten in its last six trips to California's capital.
