Timberwolves, Mavericks clash in Big D
Jan 14, 2013 - 3:47 PM (Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks look to match a season high with three straight wins when they resume a four-game homestand Monday night versus the Minnesota Timberwolves at American Airlines Center. The Mavericks have won two in a row and opened the homestand with Saturday's 104-83 victory over the Southwest Division-rival Memphis Grizzlies behind Shawn Marion's 20 points. Dirk Nowitzki had 17 points and Chris Kaman added 14 for the Mavericks, who have won two straight on the heels of a four-game skid.
"This whole season has been work," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. "It's been challenging and it's going to continue to be that, but we're showing some signs of coming together in some different ways and we've just got to continue."
Dallas is 9-7 in Big D this season and put an end to its four-game losing streak as the host. The Mavs will also entertain Houston and Oklahoma City on the residency and have won three in a row on two occasions this season.
Minnesota is mired in a three-game slide and will wrap up a four-game road trip this evening.
The Timberwolves dropped a 106-88 decision against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday as J.J. Barea shook off a balky back and scored 15 points. Nikola Pekovic added 14 and Luke Ridnour chipped in 13 points and six assists for the Timberwolves, who haven't won in San Antonio since the 2003-04 season.
"We couldn't knock down shots and (their bench) did a good job with their energy, getting some opportunities for them and getting them back in a rhythm," said Wolves acting head coach Terry Porter.
Minnesota coach Rick Adelman is at home with his ill wife and the Wolves are also without star forward Kevin Love (broken hand).
After visiting Dallas, the Timberwolves, who are 6-13 as the visitor, will return to the Twin Cities for two straight games versus the Clippers and Rockets.
The T'Wolves have defeated the Mavericks twice this season, but Dallas has won 19 of the past 24 encounters. Minnesota has lost 10 of 13 in Big D.
