Wizards carry win streak into Sacramento

Jan 16, 2013 - 3:49 PM (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards will take their season-long three- game winning streak into Sacramento on Wednesday night when they take on the Kings.

You read that correctly, the Wizards have won three straight. All three came at home and Wednesday's tilt is the first of five straight out west.

Washington is 1-15 away from the nation's capital.

This win streak began with a home victory on Jan. 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder of all teams. On Saturday, they toppled the struggling Atlanta Hawks by 10 and on Monday, they buried the Orlando Magic, 120-91.

The 120 points against the Magic was not only a season-high, it was the Wizards' most in a game by seven points. It was the eighth time all season they cracked the 100-point plateau and the 29-point winning margin eclipsed their biggest winning margin, which was 10 against the Hawks two days prior, by 19.

It would be easy to assume that John Wall's return to the lineup from a knee injury was the reason for the wins. There's probably a lot of truth to that since he's averaging 13 ppg in just under 20 minutes. But this winning streak started without Wall in the lineup against the Thunder.

"I'm not going to say that I'm that important," said Wall, who had 12 against the Magic. "I feel like I'm a big key missing to the piece."

Emeka Okafor led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds. A.J. Price and Kevin Seraphin had 18 apiece, while Bradley Beal chipped in 17. Jan Vesely even scored 10 off the bench.

The Kings halted a four-game losing streak Monday at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cleveland had no answer for DeMarcus Cousins, who tallied 26 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals.

Tyreke Evans returned to the lineup with 18 points and Marcus Thornton had 20 off the bench. Jimmer Fredette chipped in 16, John Salmons added 14 and Thomas Robinson matched a career-high with 12.

All totaled, the bench scored 54 points.

"Our bench came in and did a good job tonight," said head coach Keith Smart. "I shortened the rotation a little bit to get us closer to a win."

The Kings have won two of the last three in this series and Washington has dropped two straight in Sacramento after winning four in a row in California's capital before that.
