James becomes youngest to reach 20k points as Heat roll past Warriors

Jan 17, 2013 - 6:53 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - LeBron James had 25 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and made NBA history in the Miami Heat's 92-75 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.

With his offensive output, James has amassed 20,007 career points, making him the youngest player to reach that mark at 28 years, 17 days old. Kobe Bryant previously held the record at 29 years, 122 days old.

He became the 38th player to accomplish the feat, but by doing it in his 726th regular-season game he did not reach the milestone the fastest. Wilt Chamberlain holds that record by doing it in just 499 games.

"I try to give everything to the game of basketball and it continues to give back to me," said James. "It was great to be able to achieve those milestones alongside my teammates."

Dwyane Wade contributed 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Heat, who have won two of their last three.

Mario Chalmers added 15 points, Chris Bosh finished with 11 and Ray Allen dropped in 10 in the victory.

Jarrett Jack netted 16 points to pace Golden State, which dropped its second straight and four of five overall.

David Lee finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds in defeat.

The teams traded baskets over the opening minutes of the first quarter until Miami ripped off a 14-0 run to go on top, 23-12, on James' 3-pointer with just under three minutes left in the frame.

Golden State never got closer than seven for the remainder of the first and trailed, 28-21, heading into the second quarter, where consecutive field goals by Lee cut the Warriors' deficit to three.

Miami, however, responded with a 9-0 spurt that included a pair of treys by Allen and Chalmers to reopen a 37-25 advantage.

James later connected on a pull-up jumper near the foul line to give the Heat a 44-31 lead and register his 20,001st career point.

The Heat maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the half and carried a 52-38 cushion into the break.

Chalmers then drilled three shots from beyond the arc as Miami scored the first 13 points of a dominant third quarter, outscoring the Warriors by a 28-12 mark in the frame to take an 80-50 lead into the fourth quarter.

Miami emptied its bench for the final frame and still managed to maintain at least a 15-point lead over the final 12 minutes.

Game Notes

Warriors guard Stephen Curry sat out the game with a sprained right ankle ... James also recorded his 5,000th career assist in the game ... The Warriors fell to 11-5 against teams with records over .500 this season ... Miami scored 22 points off 21 Golden State turnovers.
