Wizards make a stop in Utah
Jan 23, 2013 - 3:57 PM (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards will try to earn a winning record on their five-game western trip Wednesday night when they visit the Utah Jazz at EnergySolutions Arena. The Wizards are 2-2 with wins in Denver and on Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers. They have been in every game during this trek and will be in search of their 10th win of the season.
"I feel pretty good about what we're doing. I feel like we could be 4-0, 3-1 at the most," said John Wall, who has been back for six games and the Wizards are 4-2 with him in the lineup.
Monday's victory over the Blazers was a thriller. Jordan Crawford drained a 3- pointer from the left wing as time expired to lift the Wizards to their third road victory of the season.
"I knew it had a chance, I just thank the Lord I made it," said Crawford. "We've got a deep team. We're just doing a good job of pulling together. I got the opportunity, I just wanted to take advantage of it."
Crawford finished with 13 points. The Wizards were led by 24 points apiece from starting forwards, Nene and Martell Webster. Emeka Okafor had a double- double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
While Washington is playing better, a tough task awaits in Utah. The Jazz are 13-4 at home, the winners of three in a row and five of the last six.
Utah has captured four in a row at home, including a 109-98 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night. The Jazz' previous game was a 104-97 win over the defending champion Miami Heat on Jan. 14.
Against the Cavs, the Jazz bench netted 51 points. Derrick Favors had 19 points and eight rebounds. Enes Kanter chipped in 14 points in less than 18 minutes and DeMarre Carroll added 13 points.
"Derrick had a great game for us," said head coach Tyrone Corbin. "We need everybody on this team to be ready to go. The guys have been great about responding."
The Jazz averaged 101 ppg during this winning streak and have been one of the league's best teams in January. Utah is 7-2 in 2013 and is holding opponents to 95 ppg during the month.
The Jazz topped the Wizards, 83-76, when these two teams met on Nov. 17 in our nation's capital. Al Jefferson led the way with 21 points and 13 rebounds that night as all three members of the Jazz frontcourt grabbed at least 10 rebounds.
The Jazz are 8-3 in their last 11 against the Wizards, who have lost 20 of the past 24 meetings in Salt Lake City.
