Cavs play host to Warriors

Jan 29, 2013 - 3:44 PM (Sports Network) - Kyrie Irving has been the main reason why the Cleveland Cavaliers are riding a season-high three-game winning streak and he will try to lead his team to victory again Tuesday versus the Golden State Warriors.

Irving, the NBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Week, has scored 30 or more points in three straight games and is averaging 31.2 ppg in his last five. He led the Cavs to a 99-98 victory at Toronto on Saturday by burying the go-ahead 3-pointer with 0.7 seconds remaining.

"I had a little conversation with (Irving) and he asked me what to do. I told him to go for three and he hit it," said Cavs coach Byron Scott.

Irving finished with a game-best 32 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, for Cleveland, which has won three in a row and four of its last five games. Marreese Speights scored 17 points, Tristan Thompson had 14 and Wayne Ellington provided 12 in a winning effort.

The Cavaliers will play eight of their next nine games at home, where they are 6-12 this season and have won three in a row. It's the first three-game home winning streak for the Cavs since Nov. 16-27, 2010. The Cavs have outscored their opponent 102.3 to 93.7 during the winning streak as the host.

In injury news for Cleveland, guard Daniel Gibson suffered a sprained toe on his right foot in the second quarter against the Raptors and did not return to the game. X-rays were taken at the arena and came back negative and he is questionable versus the Warriors.

Golden State will close out its four-game eastern road trip Tuesday and recorded a 114-102 victory at Toronto last night. Steph Curry recorded 17 points and left the game in the third quarter with a sprained right ankle. He is expected to miss Tuesday's game.

"It feels alright, same situation I just stepped on someone's foot and have to see how it responds tomorrow," Curry said afterward.

If Curry, who's experienced ankle issues in the past, can play against Irving and the Cavs, it will be a matchup between two of the top young guards.

All-Star David Lee led the Warriors with 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, while Klay Thompson scored 19 points for Golden State, which had lost two straight and five of eight games. Andrew Bogut returned to the court for the first time since Nov. 7 because of an ankle issue and scored 12 points.

"To be out there running up and down the court and especially to get the win, it was very satisfying," Bogut said. "I was excited to be out there and play basketball again. It has been a bumpy ride but I think it is at a stage now where I am ready to progress."

Bogut is expected to rest his ankle tonight.

The Warriors are 14-5 against Eastern Conference teams this season and 13-11 away from Oakland. After visiting the Cavs, Golden State will return to Oracle Arena for two straight games versus Dallas and Phoenix.

Golden State defeated Cleveland, 106-96, back on Nov. 7 at home and has won four straight in the series. The Warriors, though, have lost 16 of their past 21 trips to the Forest City.
