Hawks use balanced attack, outlast Grizzlies
Feb 7, 2013 - 3:46 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Jeff Teague scored 22 points and dished out 13 assists to pace the Atlanta Hawks to a 103-92 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.Josh Smith had 19 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and three blocks and Al Horford added 17 points and 11 boards for the Hawks, who had dropped three of their last four entering the contest.
"I'm just playing and trying to get wins and doing whatever it takes for us to get a win," Teague said. "We have to take it upon ourselves to get better every day to help our team get victories."
Zach Randolph scored 20 points and Mike Conley had 17 points and eight assists for the Grizzlies, who have dropped three of their last four games overall.
Marc Gasol scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the setback.
Atlanta shot a blistering 62.2 percent in the first half to take a 58-48 lead into the break.
Teague poured in 16 of his 22 points in the half and Smith added 10. Josh Jenkins went 3-for-5 from 3-point range and tallied all nine of his points over the opening 24 minutes.
The Hawks cooled off significantly in the third quarter, converting on just 7- of-22 (31.8 percent) field goal attempts, but held the Grizzlies to just 26.3 percent (5-for-19) from the field, yet still led, 80-62 entering the final frame.
Conley's 3-pointer with 1:45 left cut the lead to single digits, 99-90, but the Grizzlies could only manage just one more basket the rest of the way.
"We were fortunate that we were scoring points in the first half, or it could have been real ugly," said Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins. "They got away from us in the third quarter. We went with another unit and they gave us some energy and kept it close and when our starters came back in we got it down to nine points, but we just couldn't stop them consistently."
