Marion, Mavs keep Warriors on the skids
Feb 10, 2013 - 6:16 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Shawn Marion netted a season-high 26 points with 11 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks sent the struggling Golden State Warriors to a fourth straight loss with a 116-91 victory on Saturday.Dallas overwhelmed Golden State by grabbing a 62-36 advantage by halftime and never looked back. O.J. Mayo scored 19 points and Darren Collison had 18 with eight assists to help the Mavs string together consecutive wins and avoid a season sweep to the Warriors.
"We still got a big mountain to climb right now," said Marion, whose team remains five games out of a playoff spot. "We just have to take it one game at a time and continue to move in a forward direction."
Elton Brand tallied 11 points and 11 boards off the bench in the victory.
Golden State concluded its four-game road trip without a win in enduring its longest losing streak of the season. Stephen Curry scored 18 points, but on 8-of-23 shooting. The Warriors shot just 38.2 percent as a team in the setback.
"They made shots. They were the aggressor," said Golden State coach Mark Jackson. "We turned the ball over, we missed shots, they got it going in transition, and those are things that will hurt you whether you're at home or on the road, but especially on the road."
The Mavericks took control with a 14-1 surge in the first quarter, as Collison followed a triple with a tough three-point play to stake Dallas to a 23-10 advantage.
The Mavs doubled their lead five minutes into the second quarter with a 17-5 push. Dirk Nowitzki, who shot just 3-of-12 for the night, knocked down a triple and a long jumper during the surge before Marion's running jumper put Dallas on top by a 49-23 count.
The Warriors just never got into a rhythm offensively and could not slow down the Dallas attack, surrendering 85 points through the first three quarters and trailing by 19 points heading into the fourth.
They would begin the fourth on an 8-2 run to come within 87-74, but the Mavericks had their advantage back up to 26 points five minutes later following an 18-5 run that put the game away.
