Smith scores 18 as Hawks top Kings

Feb 23, 2013 - 4:34 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Josh Smith remained a member of the Hawks after the trade deadline and had 18 points in Atlanta's 122-108 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday.

Smith was expected to be the biggest chip moved on Thursday. However, Atlanta decided to keep him as the 3 p.m. deadline passed. The Hawks did make a pair of minor moves, shipping Anthony Morrow to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Dahntay Jones and acquiring Jeremy Tyler and cash considerations from the Golden State Warriors for future draft considerations.

"I'm glad I'm here," Smith said. "We've got to think about moving forward and keep pushing for better playoff position."

Jeff Teague had 20 points and 12 assists for the Hawks, who have won 10 in a row against Sacramento. Al Horford and DeShawn Stevenson tallied 24 and 17 points, respectively.

DeMarcus Cousins ended with 26 points and 13 rebounds for the Kings, who have lost four straight. Isaiah Thomas donated 30 points and nine assists.

The Kings got the trade deadline rolling on Wednesday night when they sent Thomas Robinson -- the fifth pick in last summer's draft -- Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt to the Houston Rockets for Patrick Patterson, Toney Douglas and Cole Aldrich.

Sacramento actually dominated play in the first quarter, shooting 61.1 percent from the field and leading by as many as 13. A 15-4 run by the Kings made it a 27-14 game with 3:20 remaining in the frame.

But the Hawks started to switch the momentum in their favor with a 7-2 spurt to end the opening period. It was 33-25 Sacramento heading to the second.

Trailing 39-28 with 10:19 left until the half, Atlanta went on an 8-0 run. Anthony Tolliver and Kyle Korver made 3-pointers prior to Teague's slam, which cut the gap to 39-36.

The Hawks briefly took the lead in the final two minutes of the second quarter, as Stevenson's 3-pointer and Teague's layup made it 61-58 with 1:28 to go.

Sacramento responded with the final five points of the half to take a 63-61 margin into the locker room.

A close third stanza that featured five lead changes and three ties ended with the Hawks holding a 93-88 lead.

Ahead by five at 99-94 with 8:10 to play, Atlanta put the game away with a 19-6 run. Kyle Korver's 3-pointer with 2:36 left capped the spurt and made the score 118-100.

The Hawks ended the game with a 33-19 advantage in fastbreak points.

"That's effort and energy," Kings coach Keith Smart said. "The effort defensively wasn't there."

Atlanta took both games from Sacramento this season ... Each team made 12 shots from 3-point range ... The Hawks have won three of four ... Devin Harris and Korver each had 10 points for Atlanta, which shot 53.3 percent from the field.
