Grizzlies roll into Brooklyn, take on Nets
Feb 24, 2013 - 3:56 PM (Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies roll into Brooklyn on a six-game winning streak and will try to extend it against the Nets Sunday night. The Grizzlies registered an 88-82 triumph over the Orlando Magic at home Friday night as Marc Gasol finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Zach Randolph chipped in 16 and 14 for Memphis.
"They came out and they fought right from the start. They fought right until the end. We did enough to win. It wasn't pretty," Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins said.
Mike Conley had 14 points and seven assists in the win.
Memphis has recorded back-to-back 88-82 victories and notched that margin of victory Wednesday over former employee Rudy Gay and the Toronto Raptors. The Grizzlies are second in the NBA in points allowed (89.9 ppg).
The Grizzlies will try to score 100 points on Brooklyn and are 17-0 this season when hitting that mark. The Nets are tough on defense as well, allowing just 95.1 ppg.
Brooklyn looks to get back in the win column when it takes on Memphis Sunday.
The Nets had a four-game winning streak come to an end with Friday's 106-96 loss to James Harden and the Houston Rockets. Harden had 22 points, while the Nets were led by Brook Lopez' game-high 27 points.
"We made a few runs and just didn't get over the hump," said Lopez. "We were right there."
The Nets are 8-2 when Lopez scores 24 or more points. C.J. Watson scored 17 points and is averaging 17.5 ppg in the past four.
Deron Williams added 15 points with 13 assists for Brooklyn, which played without Joe Johnson for the first time this season because of a heel issue. Johnson is questionable and is averaging 17.0 ppg in his first season with the Nets, who have lost 13 in a row to Houston.
Brooklyn, which owns a 19-9 mark under P.J. Carlesimo, is 20-11 at home this season and lost the first meeting with Memphis, 101-77, on Jan. 25 at FedEx Forum. The Grizzlies have won four of the past six encounters with the Nets.
