Horford's big night powers Hawks past Pistons
Feb 26, 2013 - 6:05 AM Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Al Horford had 23 points and 22 rebounds to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 114-103 win over the Detroit Pistons on Monday.Horford shot 10-of-13 from the field for the Hawks, who have won three straight games. Josh Smith also scored 23 points and Jeff Teague recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 assists.
"Most importantly we got the win," said Horford. "I could've done all of that and I would've been upset because we lost. But I'm very happy, and yeah it is special; it's a 20-20 game and I acknowledge it. And I've wanted one of those all year and I finally got one, so I'm happy."
Rodney Stuckey and Jonas Jerebko scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, for the Pistons, who have lost three in a row. Greg Monroe registered 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Kyle Singler added 13 points.
Detroit had a 24-19 lead late in the first quarter, but an 8-0 run that started and ended with 3-pointers by Devin Harris gave the Hawks a 27-24 edge entering the second.
In the second, Atlanta pulled away and led 39-30 with 8 1/2 minutes to go, but a tip shot by Charlie Villanueva and a pair of layups by Stuckey brought Detroit within three, 39-36, with just over seven minutes remaining.
However, Teague scored 12 points in the remaining minutes, as the Hawks extended their lead 61-49, before a layup by Stuckey ended the half.
Horford recorded 13 points and 13 rebounds in the first half alone.
In the third, Atlanta increased its lead by as much as 26 points with 3:37 remaining, though Detroit had a 10-0 run over the next three minutes, capped with a 3-pointer by Jose Calderon, to cut the deficit to 86-70.
The Hawks' Anthony Tolliver fired a jumper with 19 seconds left to give Atlanta an 88-70 advantage entering the fourth.
Jerebko scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the fourth quarter and helped close the gap, but despite his performance, the game was already out of reach.
" We have to get back and put more into the game in order to get the desired result," Pistons head coach Lawrence Frank said.
