Knicks face fighting Warriors in MSG
Feb 27, 2013 - 3:44 PM (Sports Network) - The New York Knicks were able to stop a recent slide with a return to Madison Square Garden and look to string back-to-back wins together Wednesday versus the Golden State Warriors. The Knicks halted a four-game losing streak with Sunday's 99-93 victory over the Atlantic Division-rival Philadelphia 76ers behind 29 points from Carmelo Anthony and 22 from Amare Stoudemire.
"We got tired of losing, we just had to find a way to come out here and win," Anthony told NBA.com. "I think sometimes when you lose games, consecutive games, you start pressing, you start thinking about too much and tonight we came out and just played."
New York is 1 1/2 games ahead of Brooklyn for the Atlantic Division lead and improved to 20-8 at Madison Square Garden. After hosting the Warriors, the Knicks will pay a visit to the Washington Wizards.
Knicks guard Raymond Felton, who had 14 points versus the Sixers, is listed as probable for Wednesday's game. Veteran forward Kenyon Martin could make his New York debut versus Golden State and was recently signed to a 10-day contract. Martin was added while fellow veterans Marcus Camby (left plantar fascia) and Rasheed Wallace (sore left foot) nurse their injuries.
The Warriors had a three-game winning streak come to an end with Tuesday's interesting 108-97 setback to the Indiana Pacers in the second portion of a five-game road trip.
Stephen Curry scored a game-high 38 points, while David Lee totaled 12 points and 12 boards in the loss, the Warriors' seventh in the last 10 games.
"We just turned the ball over too much and you can't do that on the road if you're trying to win," said Curry, who had six of Golden State's 20 turnovers. "We try to make that a point of emphasis on this road trip."
Golden State, which is 15-17 on the road, was involved in a skirmish during the fourth quarter, when Pacers big man Roy Hibbert got into an altercation with Lee under the basket. Hibbert shoved Lee with about six minutes to go and the Warriors big man retaliated with a chest bump.
Curry and guard Klay Thompson, who had 13 points, were also involved. Curry came to the aid of his teammate and was quickly tossed away in the melee that carried over into the stands. Suspensions and fines will most likely be headed in the direction of those involved in the fracas.
Golden State still has to play Boston and Philadelphia on the road swing.
The Warriors and Knicks will play the first of two meetings this season and are scheduled to play March 11 in Oakland. Golden State recorded a 92-78 victory over the Knicks last season on Dec. 28 and has won 11 of the past 14 matchups between the teams.
