Anthony, Knicks complete home-and-home sweep of Raptors

Mar 24, 2013 - 6:25 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points to go with eight rebounds and the New York Knicks finished off a home-and-home sweep of the Toronto Raptors in an easy 110-84 decision at Madison Square Garden.

With his knee issues seemingly behind him, Anthony has compiled 86 total points in his three games since returning from injury, and on Saturday helped his squad to a fourth straight win.

After his best performance in a Knick uniform during New York's 99-94 win over Toronto on Friday, Kenyon Martin came back a day later with 18 points, seven boards and two blocks. J.R. Smith added 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting off the bench.

"He's so active around the rim, offensively, in terms of putbacks and he's always been a good pick-and-roll player. That is a plus for us the way we play. He is a major plus for our ball club," Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said of Martin.

The Raptors, losers of four in a row and 12 of their last 16, were without Rudy Gay after he injured his back in Friday's loss. DeMar DeRozan scored a team-high 17 points, while Alan Anderson and Kyle Lowry poured in 14 apiece.

"Couldn't get Carmelo under control. They're one of the most lethal 3-point shooting teams. They were getting their rhythm back, so that caused a problem. I thought the fight was there," Raptors head coach Dwane Casey said.

Anthony capped an 11-point first quarter with a 3-point play and New York was ahead 21-12 with just over two minutes left in the period, but three straight turnovers from Smith helped cut Toronto's deficit to four at 21-17.

The Raptors drew even at 27-27 just over three minutes into the second quarter on a driving score from Lowry, but the Knicks surged back in front following back-to-back 3-pointers from reserves Steve Novak and Chris Copeland.

The Knicks held the advantage through the rest of the half, and behind the play of Anthony and Martin, carried a 59-47 edge at the break.

The duo combined for the team's last 13 points of the quarter, with Martin following consecutive jumpers from Anthony with his second vicious slam of the period. His ensuing 3-point play then created the 12-point spread.

Just over five minutes into the third quarter, Raymond Felton and Iman Shumpert had New York's lead up to 17 after burying 3-pointers 40 seconds apart from one another. A 3-point play later on from Anthony gave the Knicks a 78-60 advantage.

Down 82-67 after three quarters, the Raptors got the deficit down to 13 after DeRozan opened the fourth with a layup, but never reduced it further. The Knicks capped the dominating performance with a 57.9 shooting percentage in the final frame, while leading by as many 27 points.

Knicks guard Jason Kidd turned 40 years old on Friday. He joins teammate Kurt Thomas and assistant coach Herb Williams as the only players to play for New York at that age ... The Knicks made 7-of-19 shots from 3-point range, while the Raptors converted just 4-of-23 ... New York scored 25 points off 18 Toronto turnovers.
