Clippers resume road trip against Hornets

Mar 27, 2013 - 2:55 PM (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers will try to get past an overtime loss on Tuesday night when they continue their road trip Wednesday against the New Orleans Hornets.

The Clippers fell to the Dallas Mavericks in Big D on Tuesday, 109-102 in overtime. The Mavs are fighting like crazy to get the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference and they were a little too much for the Clips in extra time.

Chris Paul, who spent the first six seasons of his career with the Hornets, scored a season-high 33 points, but it wasn't enough. L.A. went scoreless for a three-minute stretch in overtime and the Clippers committed bad turnovers at bad times, along with missing open shots.

"The opportunity was there," said Paul, who tied a career-high in the regular season with seven turnovers. "There have been times when we've won this year and we didn't necessarily play the right way, but tonight we lost. A lot of shots and a lot of plays went their way but I feel good about how we played tonight."

Blake Griffin and Caron Butler both had 14 points and Jamal Crawford and Matt Barnes both scored 10 points off the bench.

The loss didn't hurt the Clippers too badly in the Western Conference standings. Both the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies lost on Monday and all three teams have 23 losses on the season.

Next up for the Clippers in this four games in five nights road trip is the Hornets.

New Orleans has won three in a row after losing four straight and its win on Monday halted the Nuggets' 15-game winning streak.

With starting guards Eric Gordon and Greivis Vasquez sidelined with sore ankles, seven Hornets scored in double figures and Brian Roberts, who started at the point, handed out 18 assists.

"We knew we had some guys out, but the group we had we just wanted to come out and fight," Roberts said. "Guys played extremely hard, and think that's what got us the win."

The Hornets held a nine-point lead after three quarters, then outscored the Nuggets by six in the final frame to win, 110-86.

Ryan Anderson led the way with 23 points. Darius Miller (16), Anthony Davis (14), Roger Mason, Jr. (14), Roberts (13), Al-Farouq Aminu (13) and Robin Lopez (11) all played well in the victory.

The Hornets hadn't won three games in a row since mid-January.

New Orleans and L.A. split the two games this season with the Hornets sneaking in a victory at the Staples Center. The Clippers have lost nine straight in New Orleans.
