Turner's double-double lifts 76ers over Cavaliers
Mar 30, 2013 - 4:14 AM Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Evan Turner had 23 points and 13 rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers took a 97-87 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.Jrue Holiday scored 20 points, Thaddeus Young added 18 points while Spencer Hawes had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Sixers, who have won two straight.
"The ball was moving tonight and we did a good job with that," said Philadelphia head coach Doug Collins. "At first we were dribbling too much, but we started putting our shots up and I thought this was a solid game for us."
C.J. Miles scored 19 points and Tyler Zeller added 14 points and 10 boards for the Cavaliers, who have lost seven consecutive games.
"We got to the point where we stopped moving the ball and just got stagnant," said Cleveland head coach Byron Scott. "We just weren't doing anything with the ball and that was affecting us at the other end."
Cleveland scored the first six points of the game and closed out the first quarter with a 9-2 run, including a 3-pointer from Daniel Gibson, to take a 24-19 lead into the second quarter.
The Cavaliers continued to stay in front in the second quarter and a 6-0 run gave the team a 41-31 lead with under four minutes to play, but the Sixers ripped off the final nine points of the half to send the game into the break at 45-45.
Philly opened the third quarter with an 11-2 run to assume a 56-47 lead after Turner buried a 3-ball to cap the burst just over three minutes in. The team built its lead as high as 12 points in the frame before taking a 77-66 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Cavs started the fourth with an 8-1 run to cut their deficit to four, but Turner halted the burst with a trey and later hit a bucket for a nine-point lead with eight minutes to play.
Cleveland got it close again when a Zeller dunk made it 86-81, but Turner followed with another bucket and Holiday followed that with a bucket and triple for a 93-81 lead with just over four minutes to play.
The Cavs didn't get closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
