Keeping the Faith: 76ers welcome Bobcats to town

Mar 30, 2013 - 2:52 PM (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers are not giving up hope that something miraculous will happen in their desperate pursuit of a playoff spot.

The 76ers are 6 1/2 games off the final postseason berth in the Eastern Conference with 10 to play and will return home Saturday for a showdown with the Charlotte Bobcats at Wells Fargo Center.

Philadelphia won its second straight and third in four tries with Friday night's 97-87 victory at Cleveland as Evan Turner paced the visitors with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Jrue Holiday had 20 points and Thaddeus Young added 18 for the Sixers, who haven't won three straight since the end of January and the beginning of February.

"The ball was moving tonight and we did a good job with that," said 76ers coach Doug Collins. "At first we were dribbling too much, but we started putting our shots up and I thought this was a solid game for us."

Spencer Hawes continued his dominant play as of late with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Hawes had 15 points and a career-high 17 boards in Wednesday's win over the Milwaukee Bucks. He has nine double-doubles in March.

After the Sixers host the Bobcats, they will play four in a row on the road.

The 76ers are 21-17 at home and unbeaten in three straight as the host.

Former Sixers superstar Allen Iverson is expected to be on the premises Saturday, when the organization gives out his bobblehead. Iverson was drafted No. 1 overall back in 1996 and led the 76ers to the 2001 NBA Finals.

A.I. took home the 2000-01 NBA MVP award and was an 11-time All-Star.

Charlotte has lost three of four contests and opened a three-game road trip with Friday's 111-102 loss to the streaking New York Knicks.

Gerald Henderson continued his hot play with 35 points on 9-of-16 shooting and scored 30-plus points for a second straight game. Henderson has scored 30 or more points three times in the last nine contests.

"It was a tough night, they play really well," said Kemba Walker, who had 16 points to go with eight assists. "They made shots, they made a lot of threes in the first half. They got out to a big lead and we could just never get over the hump."

The Bobcats will also visit Milwaukee and are just 6-30 on the road.

Charlotte is 0-2 against the Sixers this season and will host them next week. Philadelphia has won five straight and eight of 12 contests against the Bobcats and is unbeaten in the past four as the host in this series.
