Wizards aim to stay hot at home, welcome Raptors to D.C.

Mar 31, 2013 - 2:47 PM (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards have been tough to beat at home lately and will try to extend their winning streak at the Verizon Center to seven games Sunday versus the Toronto Raptors.

The Wizards haven't been so hot overall, losing two straight and three of four games since winning five of six. In Friday's 97-92 loss at Orlando, John Wall led all scorers with 35 points and Martell Webster chipped in 19 for the Wizards, who made just 37 percent of their shots and 4-of-20 3-pointers.

"They did whatever they wanted in the front end," said Wall, who is averaging 33.3 ppg in his last three. "They won that game in the first half because we didn't play any defense at all the whole night."

Wall is averaging 25.3 points, 8.9 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game in his last 11.

In injury news for the Wizards, forward Nene is doubtful Sunday with a series of injuries (knee, wrist, shoulder).

Washington is 19-17 as the host and hasn't won seven in a row in D.C. since a 10-game burst from Dec. 13, 2006-Jan. 20, 2007.

The Wizards will also entertain Chicago on their brief homestand.

Toronto is in the midst of playing five of seven games on the road and ended a five-game slide with Friday's 99-82 win at Detroit.

Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan scored 21 points apiece and Amir Johnson had 20 points and eight rebounds for the Raptors, who got 14 points and 13 rebounds from rookie Jonas Valanciunas and shot 53.7 percent for the game.

"We've got a lot of young players and we're playing for next year," said Gay. "These young guys need to know what it feels like to win."

All five Raptors starters shot 50 percent or better from the floor against the Pistons and combined for 80 points. DeRozan has scored 17-plus points in four of the past five games, while Johnson is averaging 11.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game in March.

After visiting the Wizards, Toronto will play two straight at home versus Detroit and Washington. Following the quick residency, the Raptors head back to the road for three games.

Toronto and Washington have split two meetings this season with each team winning as the guest.
