Cavs hope to end slides against Hornets

Mar 31, 2013 - 2:49 PM (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers will try to stop a pair of losing streaks when they pay a visit to the New Orleans Hornets Sunday night.

The Cavaliers have lost seven in a row and four straight on the road. They recently suffered a 97-87 setback to the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday and were led by C.J. Miles' 19 points.

Tyler Zeller added 14 points and 10 boards for the Cavaliers, who had a 45-36 lead late in the first half. Philadelphia used a 32-21 advantage in the third quarter to pull away.

Cleveland's bench outscored Philadelphia's reserves by a 39-13 margin.

"We got to the point where we stopped moving the ball and just got stagnant," said Cavs coach Byron Scott. "We just weren't doing anything with the ball and that was affecting us at the other end."

The Cavs are still without star guard Kyrie Irving (shoulder) and rookie guard Dion Waiters (knee) and own a 9-26 mark as the visitor. They will visit Atlanta on Monday.

New Orleans will close out a seven-game homestand Sunday and is 3-3 so far on the residency. It has dropped two in a row since a three-game winning streak and was handed a 108-89 setback at the hands of the Miami Heat on Friday.

LeBron James led the Heat with 36 points, while the Hornets were paced by Ryan Anderson's 20 points. Eric Gordon had 17 points, Brian Roberts netted 13 and Anthony Davis recorded 11 points for New Orleans, which is 15-23 at home and couldn't find a way to slow down James.

"When a guy like LeBron gets going like that, any kind of defense isn't going to help you when he's shooting from 25 feet away," Hornets coach Monty Williams said.

James scored 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting in the first half, helping Miami take a 60-43 edge. The Heat eventually grabbed a 70-45 lead later on.

New Orleans guard Greivis Vasquez (ankle) missed the game and he is listed as questionable versus the Cavaliers.

The Hornets are scheduled to head west for five games against the Warriors, Jazz, Suns, Lakers and Kings after hosting Cleveland. The Cavs defeated the Hornets 105-100 back on Feb. 20 this season at Quicken Loans Arena to snap a three-game slide in the series.

Cleveland has lost four of five trips to the Big Easy.
