Jazz resume playoff charge with Hornets in Salt Lake
Apr 5, 2013 - 2:31 PM (Sports Network) - The Utah Jazz were knocked to the canvas their last time out and will try to get back into the postseason hunt Friday versus the New Orleans Hornets. The Jazz had a five-game winning streak stopped with a 113-96 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, falling just one-half game behind the Los Angeles Lakers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Gordon Hayward scored 18 points and both Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap scored 16 points apiece for the Jazz, whose four-game home winning streak came to a close. The Jazz are still a solid 28-10 in Salt Lake City.
"They got it into a tempo that was favored for them, which is one of the things we talked about, not allowing them to do and they did that," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said of the Nuggets.
Denver had seven players score in double figures.
Utah was without Enes Kanter (dislocated left shoulder) and he is out indefinitely.
After the Jazz close out their four-game homestand, they will pay a visit to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.
New Orleans will resume its final road trip of the season and opened the five- game western junket with Wednesday's 98-88 loss to the Warriors.
Eric Gordon had a team-high 21 points for New Orleans, which has lost seven straight on the road. Robin Lopez had 17 points and seven rebounds, while Greivis Vasquez collected 15 points and nine assists.
"We had more defensive breakdowns in the first half than we've had in full games lately," Hornets head coach Monty Williams said
The Hornets are 10-26 away from the Big Easy and will also visit the Suns, Lakers and Kings on the trip.
New Orleans has lost two of three meetings with Utah this season and is only 2-10 in the previous 12 matchups in Salt Lake City.
