Timberwolves search for more success against Pistons

(Sports Network) - The Minnesota Timberwolves will try to continue their recent domination of the Detroit Pistons when the two clubs square off Saturday from the Target Center.

Minnesota recently defeated Detroit, 105-82, on March 26 behind J.J. Barea's 21 points off the bench. The Timberwolves have won five straight in this series with the Pistons, who have lost 10 of 15 trips to the Twin Cities.

The Wolves are coming off Friday's 95-93 setback to the visiting Toronto Raptors as Nikola Pekovic and Andrei Kirilenko netted 24 and 20 points, respectively, for Minnesota, which had started April with two straight wins.

Ricky Rubio ended with 13 points, 12 assists and five rebounds in defeat. He was upset the Wolves couldn't pull through for coach Rick Adelman's 1,000th career victory.

"It's hard to lose like that, especially how the game went," Rubio said. "It's something that we wanted to win so bad."

Adelman is trying to become the eighth coach with at least 1,000 wins, and could get it Saturday for how well his team has played against Detroit.

After hosting the Pistons, Minnesota, which is 18-20 at home, will begin a three-game western trek Tuesday against the Warriors, Clippers and Jazz.

Detroit will close out a four-game road trip Saturday and fell to 1-2 on the junket following Wednesday's 98-93 loss to the Boston Celtics.

Greg Monroe had 24 points and 17 rebounds for his 35th double-double of the season and Rodney Stuckey added 22 points for the Pistons, who have lost 14 of their last 16 contests and got 19 points from Jonas Jerebko. Detroit trailed by 18 points in the third quarter, but later cut the deficit to 93-91.

Detroit grabbed a season-high 25 offensive rebounds and outscored Boston 58-28 in the paint.

"We showed some resilience," Jerebko said. "We kept working and kept playing together."

The Pistons are 10-28 as the visitor and will return to The Palace for a home bout versus Chicago on Sunday. In injury news for Detroit, guard Will Bynum (hand) will miss Saturday's game and guard Jose Calderon (triceps) is listed as probable against the Timberwolves.
