Grizzlies back home to take on lowly Bobcats
Apr 9, 2013 - 2:36 PM (Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies are back home following a successful western trip and will host the Charlotte Bobcats Tuesday night at FedEx Forum. The Grizzlies went 2-1 on the trek against the Blazers, Lakers and Kings, and are coming off Sunday's 89-87 triumph in Sacramento. Mike Conley poured in 25 points and his go-ahead basket with 30 seconds remaining lifted Memphis to its fifth win in six tries.
Marc Gasol had 15 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks, and his rejection of Marcus Thornton's 3-pointer on the last play of the game preserved the win.
"He pump-faked and I didn't jump," Gasol said. "I'm not much of a jumper anyway. The switch worked out."
Quincy Pondexter scored 17 off the bench for the Grizzlies, who are fifth in the West -- one game behind Denver for the third spot.
Memphis will put its 12-game home winning streak on the line Tuesday. It's the longest home winning streak in a single season. Memphis won 15 in a row at home from March 18 - Nov. 16, 2012.
The Grizzlies have not lost at FedEx Forum since Feb. 5 versus Phoenix.
Charlotte will continue its three-game road trip Tuesday and has lost 12 in a row as the visitor. In Saturday's 105-96 loss at Brooklyn in the opener of the trip, Ben Gordon scored 27 points off the bench and Gerald Henderson tallied 22 points.
Bismack Biyombo had 10 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Bobcats, losers in seven of their last nine games.
"We're learning, and ultimately we will be better for this process," Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap said.
The Bobcats are just 6-33 away from home and haven't won as the guest since Feb. 19 against the Orlando Magic. They will wrap up the jaunt Friday at Detroit.
Charlotte sustained a 94-87 loss to Memphis at home back on Nov. 17 this season. Zach Randolph finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds in that one for the Grizzlies, who are 10-6 in the all-time series with Charlotte. The Bobcats have lost five of the seven meetings at the Grizzlies.
